Ateneo Blue Eagles struggle for first win 63-59


Sunday, July 12, 2009 the most awaited moment is over. This is it! This is really is it!! The first game of the depending champion ateneo blue eagles versus feu tamaraw for UAAP season 72. All is excited the players, the fans, the coaches and the reporters. Even though the game is not officially started you can already feel the momentum inside Araneta Coliseum is very fantastic. Both fans in every school have their own way to cheer their team.
In the first quarter ateneo left for eight points (0-8). But when Eric Salamat make his first shot followed by three points. Jai Reyes, Rabeh Al-Hussaini (former 2008 MVP), Nonoy Baclao and the rest of their players who played inside the court contribute their two or three points the reason they continue their lead until the 3rd quarter. But in the fourth quarter the marvelous actions happens when the blue eagle’s defense is not as strong as in the previous quarter. The tamaraw ties their score for two times in the last quarter, but the eagles continues to fight. In the last 2 minutes the eagles already assures for the win but when the opponent shot for three and being fouled. Coach Norman asks for time out to advise his team what to do, but the tamaraw shot for another two points. So Rabeh needs to move to save the team. And finally for the last 22.1 seconds in the quarter, the ateneo gets the ball. They attempt to make a score out the remaining time but Ryan Buenafe is fouled by Knuttel of tamaraw. Ryan’s free throw makes their score 62-59. But within the last second tamaraw fouled Rabeh lead him to the free throw line and makes their score 63-59. And they win.
At the end of the game Rabeh asked how the first game is. He answered it is good but he admits that the tamaraw really give them hard time to do it. All he need is to focus on the game and on his play.
